Absence was in very poor taste

In response to Bob Spruill’s letter titled “Program at same time as services,” this letter was in response to a letter that I had written on Nov. 14 titled “Great Parade, but some were AWOL.”

First I would like to start by saying thank you for your service to our country, Mr. Spruill. With that said I would like to say I am very aware that the Veteran’s Day program was held during Sunday church services, but the God I serve is a very forgiving God and I am pretty sure he would not mind if anyone missed a Sunday morning service to honor our veterans. After all, and you can correct me if I’m wrong, if it were not for our veterans and actively serving military we would not have the freedom to serve the God of our choice as well as the many freedoms we as Americans enjoy daily.

I am also aware that many churches offer evening Sunday services that one may opt for. The God I am free to serve is any day, any time, anywhere because of our veterans.

Veterans Day only falls on a Sunday every seven years, unless there is a leap year. The reason for the 11th hour is because WWI ended the 11th month, the 11th day, the 11th hour and this is the appropriate time frame for the celebration of Veteran’s Day.

I’m sorry, but I feel as though, elected officials of our county, someone from the commissioners should have been present to make the announcement with Mr. Stephens about the “Memorial Soldiers Field” that he so diligently has been working on with them for a year. I feel not being there was in very poor taste on the part of the commissioners.
