Successful season for Patriot Brigade

The Terre Haute North Patriot Brigade marching band has enjoyed a successful competition season, thanks to the contributions of many dedicated individuals and groups.

The Patriot Brigade is advancing to the Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA) Scholastic State Finals for the first time in school history, having received a Gold Rating with Distinction in Music at the state prelims held at Plainfield High School on Oct. 12.  The state finals will take place at Lawrence Central High School on Saturday. This year’s show is titled “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door” and features outstanding musical performances, choreography and field props that almost span the entire length of a football field.

Success in marching band does not happen without the dedication and sacrifice of many individuals and groups, both on and off the field of competition. Band members, directors and staff spent hot summer months preparing complicated music and drills. They continue to practice often four times per week to perfect their challenging routines. Behind the scenes, band parents and other boosters support the Patriot Brigade through weekly contributions of their time and talents. They help band members prepare for their performance on competition day and are present before, during and after the show to help with every aspect of the day. The crowd noise of enthusiastic and supportive parents and other fans in the bleachers helps influence the judges’ scoring of each performance.

Band members and boosters would like to thank Directors Brooke and Jeremy Basso for their countless hours of dedication to the Patriot Brigade and for the example of leadership and commitment that they set for Terre Haute North Vigo High School students every day. Special thanks also go to Terre Haute North Vigo High School Principal Robin Smith, who is very supportive of the band through her actions and words. Her personal pep talk and sendoff to the Patriot Brigade on the day of state prelims was especially inspiring and meaningful.

Thanks also go the administration, faculty and staff of Terre Haute North Vigo High School and to Superintendent Tanoos and members of the Vigo County School Corp. administration. Thank you to all Patriot Brigade sponsors and those who have made financial contributions, either directly or indirectly, to the band. Finally, thanks go to the First Financial Corp. for the use of their equipment trailer.

The Terre Haute North Patriot Brigade will continue its competitive season into November as it participates in the Midstates Band Association Championships in Mason, Ohio, on Nov. 2 and the Bands of America Regionals at Lucas Oil Stadium on Nov. 9. Thank you to all who have made this successful season possible.
