Help Red Cross save the day

March was Red Cross Month. But now is still a perfect time to become a part of the Red Cross mission and help people in need by making a donation.

As the 2014 campaign co-chairs for the American Red Cross Wabash Valley Chapter’s Annual Save the Day Campaign, we are asking you to join us in making a gift that can really save the day and help us meet our goal to raise $85,000.

The gift that saves the day is the gift you give today to the American Red Cross. Our mission is simple, we aim to reach, teach, impact and help change lives. It may be a disaster — from a home fire that melts away irreplaceable heirlooms for one family to a flood that washes out the homes of families across eight counties across the Wabash Valley as it did in 2008. It may be a call to save a life when someone is choking or having a heart attack. Or it may be a family needing the Red Cross to serve as a lifeline between them and their service member about an emergency at home or help their family cope with the difficulties of deployment. That’s your Red Cross working 24 hours a day.

Sometime soon — in the middle of the night while you sleep — local volunteers will answer the call of a family in need of Red Cross services. They will stand on the lawn of a family who just lost their home and everything they own to a fire. Because of your gift, they will have blankets to keep warm, hot coffee, a place to stay for the night, funds to replace their clothing, life-sustaining medication, any other emergency items and a plan to help them return to a normal life. These are the families the mission of the Red Cross serves every day.

Choosing to support our community’s annual Save the Day Campaign is a way to say thank you to the men, women and children who deliver vital community services to people in need. Your willingness to support our mission and be there when needed most is crucial.

Whenever and wherever someone needs us, the Red Cross will be there. But to do that, we ask you to join us and make a gift that will Save the Day.

Unfortunately, we can’t predict when and where the next disaster will strike, but I can assure you that your gift today will save the day for those we serve tomorrow — giving at home when it’s needed most.
