Gregory J. Roth
Gregory J. Roth was born on March 26, 1928, in Cincinnati, to Theophilus Roth and Loretta Buecker Roth. He graduated from Elder High School, and then from the University of Cincinnati. On May 5, 1951, he married Reva Irene Brown, a young lady that he met on a co-op job, while at the University.
He is survived by Reva; his children, Paul (Connie) Roth, Teri (Mike) Rowe, Don Roth and Judy Lawler. God called a daughter, Mary, back to heaven shortly after her birth. He is survived by grandchildren, Emily and Allison Roth, Stephen and Sarah Rowe, and Scott Lawler. He also is survived by his brother, Ron (Mimi); many beloved cousins, nephews and nieces; and more friends than can be readily counted.
Greg was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1953, reached the rank of sergeant and assumed the title of Administrator of Casualty Reporting for the Fifth Regimental Combat Regiment during the Korean War. After receiving an honorable discharge from the Army, he returned to work at General Electric Aircraft Engine Division, in Cincinnati, and attended Xavier University, where he received a master’s degree in Business Administration.
In 1972, he left GE to become general manager of Tri-Industries, a jet engine parts manufacturer, in Terre Haute, Ind. After Tri-Industries was bought by UNC Inc., he accepted the position of vice president of marketing. Curiously, what was Tri-Industries is now owned by GE.
Greg retired in 1990 to lead a full life in many chosen environments. In association with the Dewey Institute for Lifelong Learning (Indiana State University) he gave talks on photography and investments, exhibited photographs in the Library, and wrote a book on “The King of The Indiana Bootleggers.” He also has been active at St. Margaret Mary Church, in Terre Haute, as a lector, communion minister, and as a member of the Liturgy Committee.
Visitation and funeral services will be today from 2:30 to 4 p.m. at St. Margaret Mary Church, in Terre Haute, with mass of Christian burial beginning at 4 p.m. He will be entombed at Calvary Mausoleum, in Terre Haute. DeBaun Funeral Home assisted with arrangements. Mr. Roth’s family suggests memorial contributions be made to either St. Margaret Mary Church, 2405 South 7th Street, Terre Haute, IN 47802; or Catholic Charities of Terre Haute, 2901 Ohio Blvd. Terre Haute, IN 47803.
