Vigo County Middle School to benefit from $949,000 federal grant

Sarah Scott Middle School will benefit from a $948,829 federal school improvement grant, the state Department of Education announced today.

Six other schools also received grants. School Improvement Grants are awarded to schools that demonstrate a great need for these funds, as well as a commitment to use these funds to raise achievement levels in low-performing schools.

The total amount awarded to Indiana schools is $8.5 million over the next three years. The grants are fully funded by the federal government.

“I am honored to award these grants today,” said Glenda Ritz, Indiana superintendent of public instruction. “My department is committed to providing schools and communities with the resources they need to ensure that all Hoosier children receive an equitable and high quality education. These schools have demonstrated a great need for these funds, as well as excellent plans to improve student performance.”

In addition to these grants, the state Department of Education will continue to provide high-quality support through the Outreach Division of School Improvement to all schools throughout the state, she said.

Other recipients are:

  • Stonybrook Middle School, MSD Warren Township: $1,850,000
  • Fairview Elementary, Monroe County: $619,258.69
  • Highland Park Elementary, Monroe County: $847,122.95
  • Lake Ridge Middle School, Lake Ridge School Corporation: $738,388.07
  • Chamberlain Elementary, Goshen: $1,750,000
