UPDATE: I-74 lane closures, traffic delays ongoing after crash

Motorists should be alert to continuing traffic delays on Interstate 74 following a multiple-vehicle crash this morning.

Both eastbound lanes of I-74 remain closed near milepost 199, according to an updated news release issued about 11 a.m. Central time by Illinois State Police District 10. Westbound traffic is narrowed to one lane and is expected to remain that way for several more hours.

The crash occurred when a westbound semi traveled through cable barriers and across the median, striking another semi and an Illinois Department of Transportation pickup truck, police stated.

The lanes are closed and/or reduced to facilitate crash reconstruction, removal of the vehicles by heavy duty tow equipment, cargo remediation and a small hazardous materials cleanup.

Westbound motorists traveling I-74 from the Danville area should expect delays, use caution, reduce speed and allow for extra travel time. Eastbound motorists on I-74 from the Champaign area should expect detours at exit 197 onto U.S. 150 and back on I-74 at exit 200.
