UPDATE: Description of homicide victim released

TERRE HAUTE — A description has been released for a homicide victim found Sunday evening in the Wabash River.

The victim is a white male about 5-feet-6 to 5-feet-8 inches tall. His age is between 35 to 55 years old.

An autopsy Monday morning revealed that within the past five to seven years the man had suffered a broken right femur that would have required medical treatment. There were no visible tattoos on the man’s arms, torso or legs. No identification was found on the body.

The autopsy revealed that the person had been in the river for a few days, said Chief Deputy Clark Cottom of the Vigo County Sheriff’s Department. The body was found in the water by boaters on the river south of the Interstate 70 bridge.

Cottom said that information from the public will help in identifying the man. Anyone with information about a missing family member, friend or neighbor is asked to contact the sheriff’s department at 812-462-3226 or to report information anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 812-238-STOP.
