Flooding, high winds could hit Wabash Valley

Possible flooding and high winds could enter the Wabash Valley in the next 24 hours, and officials are warning the public to take precautions.

Motorists in high-profile vehicles should be alert to high winds, according to a special weather statement released this afternoon by the National Weather Service in Indianapolis.

Flood warnings have been issued for multiple counties including Clay, Greene, Parke, Sullivan, Vermillion and Vigo.

At 3:13 p.m., NWS doppler radar indicated that heavy rainfall had exited the warned area, but rainfall amounts from two to four inches have produced flooding in central Indiana.

Runoff from the rainfall will continue the flooding, and the NWS expects that flooding will increase in small creeks and streams, and along highways and underpasses. Also, county roads and farmland along creek banks and other low-lying areas are subject to flooding.

Dr. Dorene Hojnicki of the Vigo County Emergency Management Agency told the Tribune-Star that no flooding has been reported as of 3:30 p.m. today, but she does expect flooding to occur in some low-lying areas, especially as more rainfall enters the area overnight.
