Downtown music festival gains board approval

TERRE HAUTE — The 2014 Blues at the Crossroads music festival received unanimous approval today from the Terre Haute Board of Public Works.

The approval gives event organizer Connie Wrin the green light to start booking acts for the Sept. 12-13 live music event downtown.

Mike Ellis, a Terre Haute attorney and downtown business owner, had threatened to file for an injunction against the event if the Board of Works did not make changes to how the event is conducted. He asserted it made access difficult to one of his businesses on Wabash Avenue.

At its afternoon meeting, the Board of Works approved a new perimeter for the festival grounds that will stop about 20 feet short of where it has in the past, in order to avoid any possible blocking of Ellis’ business. Reached after the meeting, Ellis, who did not attend the meeting due to being in court, said he is pleased with the outcome.

This will be the 14th year for the downtown music festival.
