Construction zone wrong way driver arrested for DUI

TERRE HAUTE — A wrong-way driver found himself in the Vigo County Jail after being arrested for driving while intoxicated late Monday.

Indiana State Police at Putnamville report that motorist Patrick Alan Leu, 32, of Mason, Mich., was stopped by Trooper Ted Robertson at about 10:30 p.m. in a highway work zone on U.S. 41 near Johnson Avenue.

Robertson reported seeing a 2004 Oldsmobile being driven eastbound out of a parking lot using a westbound exit lane near a retail area. The car then turned southbound on U.S. 41 in the construction zone, traveling 48 mph in a 40 mph zone. The car reportedly traveled left of center as well as crossed the white line on the right side of the road.

Robertson reported that Leu failed field sobriety tests at the scene, and a breath test at the jail showed Leu had a .24 percent blood-alcohol content. He was arrested for driving while intoxicated and various traffic violations.

Police patrols of construction zones throughout Indiana have been increased to reduced danger and impaired driving. To report dangerous driving, call 911.
