PARKE COUNTY —
The search for a missing Parke County woman ended tragically Monday.
The Parke County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release issued Tuesday that Rebecca Rector, 59, of rural Bloomingdale, went missing on Sunday.
Deputies began searching for her about 5 p.m. Sunday and on into the night, according to the release. Several local fire departments and Indiana Conservation officers also searched the area, including a search of Sugar Creek, which is near Rector’s home.
Parke County authorities attempted to have a Silver Alert issued several times but those requests were denied, according to the release.
During further searches Monday afternoon, Rector’s body was discovered in Sugar Creek by Indiana Conservation officers. An autopsy was conducted Tuesday and results are pending. Foul play is not suspected, but the Parke County Sheriff’s Department is continuing its investigation.
