UPDATE: State of emergency still in effect. Latest closings ...

TERRE HAUTE — Vigo County commissioners are continuing a snow emergency on county roadways. As of 1 p.m. Monday, officials say the closure will be reevaluated in 24 hours.

Only emergency and essential traffic should be on the roadways. Deputies are extremely busy with emergencies and therefore are not actively stopping motorists on the roadways. However non-essential drivers involved in crashes, slide-offs or compounding road closures may be subject to citation.
Vigo County sheriffs deputies continue to work from four-wheel-drive vehicles. Sheriffs deputies also will continue to respond to high-priority calls only. Some non-urgent reports may be taken by phone. Deputies have also paired up with the National Guard to respond to rural areas in military HUM-Vs.
Many county roads are closed with snow drifts as high as four feet high. Temperatures and wind chills are extremely dangerous.
Officials are asking people to stay off the roads and allow road crews and emergency vehicles do their work.
