TERRE HAUTE —
The Terre Haute Police Department is continuing to investigate the disappearance of 17-year-old Lily Cowart. The THPD issued a news release Monday in response to several stories circulating regarding the missing teen.
In the release, the police stated that some circumstances concerning her disappearance had not been made public and may assist police in locating the young woman.
Police were dispatched to a Fourth Avenue home on Dec. 12 regarding a missing juvenile, according to the release. Officers were told by the juvenile’s mother that she had left the residence about 3 p.m., claiming to go to the library. Officers were advised the juvenile had taken her tooth brush and several personal items. Further investigation revealed she had also taken clothing and all of her makeup before leaving the home, according to the release.
It was also reported to the officers that the teen had been involved in a relationship with a male who she met online. Detectives are investigating that aspect of the case and others, according to police.
Statements concerning the teen’s cell phone activity have not and cannot be verified at this time, the THPD stated.
“Every effort is being made to locate this juvenile and every possible scenario is being considered,” the news release stated. Initial information provided by the teen’s family indicated the disappearance was voluntary, police said.
