Jan. 8 Illinois road condition update

Illinois State Police District 10 officials are advising the roadways continue to be extremely dangerous, including in Vermillion and Edgar counties. Interstate 57, Interstate 72, Interstate 74, state routes and U.S. routes remain dangerous, with snow-packed drifts, icy patches and now partial melting snow/slush as temperatures have climbed enough for the salt to start working. Motorists traveling on I-57 continue to slide off the roadway into the median and ditches.

A complete list of road closures can be found on the Illinois Department of Transportation website,, and at or 1-800-452-4368.
