KEGLER’S KORNER: New members of GTHBA Hall of Fame

TERRE HAUTE — The “winter” bowling season has come to a close, and with that realization, it’s time to find out who are the newest inductees to the Greater Terre Haute Bowling Association Hall of Fame.

The GTHBA’s 43rd annual dinner was May 7 at the Idle Creek Banquet Center.

n Tom Brown (men’s achievement) — Brown started his bowling career in 1976, having bowled 300 games at the Terre Haute Bowling Center, Imperial Lanes and Vigo Bowl. The former Indiana State University bowler even rolled a perfect game in a Professional Bowling Association tournament.

Brown has accumulated seven 300 games, four 299 games, and has a pair of 800 series with a high three-game series of 814. His high average is 226 and he has won numerous league high average awards. He also has seven 11-strikes-in-a-row awards and one triplicate award.

Brown won Local Men’s Association singles titles (once), doubles title (once) and has been a member of several team championships. He’s won several 700 Club events.

n Larry Nolte (men’s service) — Nolte has been bowling since 1958. He was formerly a manager at City Bowling Lanes in Brazil and worked part-time as a mechanic at Brazilian Lanes.

He’s been a league president eight times, and is currently president of the Wednesday night Mixed Doubles League at Brazilian Lanes. He’s been a YABA (junior) coach/instructor for four years.

Nolte has bowled in the last seven National Tournaments, and has competed in the Old Timers Tournaments the past five years. He is a past winner of the Brazilian Open.

Nolte has accumulated 49 700 series, a trio of 300 games and is currently carrying a 210 average.

n Janie Martin (women’s achievement) — A bowler since 1970, Martin has a high game of 286, high series of 760, rolled 30 games over 275 and has 15 700 series. Her high league average is 215.

Martin has bowled in 29 Indiana State Tournaments and in three National Tournaments. Her top tournament score is 279.

Her other bowling achievements include winning the 2008-09 Champion of Champions at Parisian Lanes, the Illinois Farm Bureau State mixed doubles, Illinois Farm Bureau State singles and the Terre Haute Bowling Center Mixed Shootout. She is also was runner-up in the Illinois State Doubles.

Martin belongs to the Greater Terre Haute Bowling Association, Paris Women’s Bowling Association, Edgar County USBC 700 Club and the National 600 Club.

n Julia Miller (women’s service) — Miller started her bowling career in 1958 and still bowls in three leagues weekly and has bowled in leagues at Imperial Lanes, Vigo Bowl and THBC.

Miller has been secretary of the Monday Senior League and the Wednesday Senior League at the THBC for 16 years. She has been honored as secretary of the year in 1996-97, senior bowler of the year in 2000-01 and officer of the year in 2006-07.

She is a member of the Greater Terre Haute Women’s Bowling Association and the 600 Club.
