Hall of Fame banquet lands well known speaker

The 39th Greater Terre Haute Bowlers Hall of Fame banquet is set for 6:30 p.m. on May 5 at Le Fer Hall on the campus of St. Mary-of-the-Woods College.

Guest speaker will be Dick Jonckowski, a much sought after guest speaker and master of ceremonies for a wide range of events, both regional and national, since 1965.

Jonckowski has been the public address voice of University of Minnesota baseball and basketball since 1986. He has also served as the banquet MC and game PA voice for the American Legion World Series since 1998.

His motto being “Laugh and Live Longer,” Jonckowski has entertained thousands all over the United States and Canada with his spontaneity and quick wit.

John Hayes, one of the Hall of Fame’s board of governors, has known Jonckowski for the past 10 years during his time as manager of the Wayne Newton Post 346 American Legion baseball team.

Cost is $20 per person and tickets will be available at the Terre Haute Bowling Center, Vigo Bowl, Imperial Lanes, Brazilian Lanes and through the Great Terre Haute Men’s and Women’s Bowling Associations.



In tournament news:

• Women’s local tournament — The Greater Terre Haute Women’s USBC Local Tournament final results were posted recently, this year’s annual event was Paradise Bowl in Clinton.

In team event, The Fab Five (3,389) was first, Russell Enterprizes (3,389) second while third place went to Five Wonders (3,274).

In doubles, first place was Linda Zellars-Carol Davis (1,450), followed by Alice Hines-Therese Raines (1,443), Brittany Gambill-Brittany Foster (1,436), Mary L. Williams-Sarah Tharp (1,377) and Jodi Wheeler-Sue Chandler (1,359).

In singles, Sandy Peters (735) was the winner, followed by Davis (718), Williams (701), Hines (699), Chandler (691), Fonda Nesbit (679) and Linda Campbell (675).

All events actual champion was Foster with a nine-game tally of 1,982 a 220.2 average. In all events handicap, the top six were Davis (2,137), Foster (2,135), Campbell (2,019), Hines (2,017), Chandler (2,013) and Tharp (2,004).
