Indiana State women’s basketball led 27-18 at Northern Iowa with just a minute to before halftime, but it was all downhill from that point on.
The host Panthers finished the half on a 8-0 run, extending that to a 21-4 run to take a 39-31 advantage. The Sycamores never recovered, falling by a score of 75-49.
Natasha Zurek led the Sycamores with 13 points, while Taylor Whitley and Racheal Mahan had 10.
ISU (17-10, 9-8 MVC) will now need a victory Saturday at Bradley in order to stop from falling to the No. 6 seed in the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament. Northern Iowa (15-14, 10-7), which was led by Jacqui Kalin with 29 points, clinched the No. 4 seed with its win.
The Braves (14-14, 8-9 MVC) ended the game on an 8-2 run to defeat third-place Illinois State 71-69 on Thursday.
Zurek and Mahan led ISU’s first-half surge as the Sycamores’ converted 11 points off 10 UNI turnovers to build their lead.
