TERRE HAUTE — Indiana State won't have to wait long to get another shot at Evansville.
After losing to Evansville 84-68 on Saturday at Evansville's Ford Center, ISU earned the No. 5 seed in the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament and will have a rematch with the No. 4-seeded Purple Aces at 3:30 p.m. on Friday at Scottrade Center in St. Louis.
It will be the first time ISU has played in the 4-5 game at the MVC Tournament since 2001. In that season, ISU was the No. 5 seed and won the tournament.
ISU split its season series with Evansville with both teams winning on their home floor.
ISU last played Evansville in the MVC Tournament in 2011. Jake Odum, then a freshman, hit a shot at the buzzer for a 52-50 victory. The win propelled ISU to the 2011 MVC Tournament championship.
ISU does not enter Arch Madness on a high note. The Sycamores (17-13, 9-9) have lost their last five MVC games and five of six overall.
The tournament begins at 7 p.m. Thursday with the play-in round. It concludes at 2 p.m. Sunday with the championship game, which is broadcast on CBS.
