Lansing apologizes for postgame mix-up

ISU head coach was supposed to speak to fans after Drake game

TERRE HAUTE — As if a game-day suspension for Manny Arop and a 67-56 home loss to Drake weren't bad enough to endure for Indiana State men's basketball coach Greg Lansing on Wednesday, he found out Thursday morning that something else went wrong.

It was ISU's last home game of the season. It would normally have been Senior Night, but ISU has no seniors this season.

During the game, ISU announced that Lansing would speak to the crowd after the game to thank them anyway. Fans were asked to stick around and listen to Lansing's comments. It was intended as a sort of replacement for the traditional Senior Night activities where the departing players speak to the crowd.

However, Lansing never spoke to the crowd after the loss. That displeased some of the fans who were at Hulman Center and who had sat through ISU's loss to the Bulldogs.

Lansing was mortified when he found out he had forgotten about this obligation on Thursday and he wished to make a public apology to ISU's fans.

"I was asked Tuesday by Mr. [Ron] Prettyman [ISU Director of Athletics] to address the crowd on Senior Night, even though we didn't have any seniors. We had a senior manager in Jacob Dunn. Basically, what I wanted to do was thank our fans and student section, the Sparkettes and cheerleaders, and our terrific band for all of the support they have for us," Lansing explained.

"I just out-and-out flat forgot after the game. I did what I always do after a game, whether we win or lose, I put my head down and walked to the locker room. I didn't think about it until Thursday morning when I ran into Mr. Prettyman," Lansing added.
