EUGENE, Ore. — The U.S. Olympic Trials for track and field opened Friday and former Indiana State and Sullivan High School standout Erica Moore did not advance out of the preliminary round in the women’s 800-meter run.

Competing for the Nike team, Moore was timed in 2 minutes, 4.44 seconds to place 21st out of 32 competitors (four heats of eight). Only the top 16 move on to the event’s semifinals, which will start at 7:30 p.m. EDT today.

In the women’s pole vault, rainy conditions called for the qualifying round to be canceled Friday, so former ISU athlete Kylie Hutson will head straight to the finals Sunday. That event is slated to start at 5:25 p.m. EDT and Hutson will need to finish in the top three to qualify for the 2012 Summer Olympics at London.
