ISU women surge to road victory

EVANSVILLE — Indiana State used a 26-0 run to take down Evansville by a score of 55-48 in women’s college basketball Thursday night.

The Sycamores played awful in the first half, shooting 4-of-31 to fall behind 26-15.

Racheal Mahan scored seven straight points over a two-minute span midway through the second half to put the Sycamores ahead 34-32. ISU made 8-of-13 from the field to start the second half.

ISU never gave up its lead to give the Sycamores (15-8, 7-5 Missouri Valley Conference) three straight victories. ISU moves ahead of Evansville into fourth place in the standings.

“It was the worst first half of basketball we’ve played. Things got a little bit frustrating there,” Moren said. “We didn’t have a lot of corrections at halftime other than our attitude.”

Mahan led the Sycamores with 17 points and seven rebounds. Taylor Whitley and Natasha Zurek added nine points apiece. Whitley and Anna Munn had team-high honors with eight rebounds each.

“The kids came in the second half and did a tremendous job. It started defensively. Racheal had a big night. You just had to find a way,” Moren said.
