Genealogy: Vigo County Gold Star Honor Roll

TERRE HAUTE — FamilySearch International recently announced “the release of significant new enhancements to its web services that allow visitors to collaboratively build their family tree online, preserve and share precious family photos and stories, and receive personal research assistance–all for free.”

The “Family Tree” and “Photos and Stories” features will allow users to add stories and photographs to enhance their family trees. Other applications will be an ancestor and descendant Fan Chart, a Family Tree Wizard tool, and a Live Help service. Visit FamilySearch.org for information.

Over the past few weeks, we have been featuring names from the Gold Star Honor Roll: those people from the Indiana counties of the Wabash Valley who perished in WWI. This week’s completes the listing for Vigo County.

The book, “Gold Star Honor Roll: A Record of Indiana Men and Women who Died in the Service of the United States and the Allied Nations in the World War, 1914-1918,” is a valuable resource for genealogists. The book is not only a tabulation of names but a listing of the person’s rank, his/her birth date and place of birth, parents’ names, date killed, where killed, cause of death, where interred, plus a short biographical sketch and a photo.
