He was born on Jan. 16, 1805, in Tennessee, and died on June 7, 1881, in Sullivan County, Ind. He married Susannah Zink about 1839. They had the following children: 1) Elisha, married Mary Ann Secrest; 2) Louisa Jane, married Jacob Secrest; 3) Nancy Caroline, married James Hayes, and they lived in Dick Johnson Township, Clay County, Ind.; 4) Mary Elizabeth, married High Headley, and they lived in Shannon County, Mo.; 5) Matthew J. or John Matthew, married Elza Hawk/Howk; 6) Amos Pierce, married Sara Jane Secrest; 7) James A., married Elizabeth (Lizzie) Borders, and she later married Henry A. Burris; 8) Samuel S., married Martha Stanley and Lettie Heath. If anyone has any information on Elijah Burris’ parents, siblings or children, I would deeply appreciate hearing from you.
