GENEALOGY: Visit local libraries for genealogy research

TERRE HAUTE — In genealogy, there’s nothing quite like being able to visit libraries and carry out your research in person. This week and next will be devoted to information about our local libraries in Illinois and Indiana. Some have the added bonus of having online information and archives, so also check out their web sites.

The 4th annual RootsTech conference will take place in February for the upcoming year. It will be in Salt Lake City, Utah, on Feb. 6-8, and is billed as “a global family history event where people of all ages learn to discover and share their family stories and connections through technology … there is something for [everybody], regardless of [their] experience in family history or [their] skill in technology.”

The conference offers early bird discounts for those who sign up by Jan. 6. There are many different passes available and the prices can be seen at A full access pass (allowing the user to enter any event and attend any of the more than 200 classes) will be discounted from $239 to $159. Other (less expensive) passes include one-day passes for each of the three days, student passes, getting started passes, and innovator summit passes.
