Genealogy: Dutchman seeks family of missing soldier

TERRE HAUTE — Query: I live in the Netherlands and recently I have adopted the name of American PFC Joseph P. Nelson at the Netherlands American Cemetery in Margraten. He was killed in action on Dec. 5, 1944, and his name is on the Walls of the Missing.

After searching the web, I have found his hometown was in Fountain County, Indiana. He lived there with his parents, Joseph and Glen, his brother Leo, and his sister Marie.

I continued my search, and I have found some information on the Vigo County Public Library website: I found that there is (or was) a Mrs. Elizabeth L. Nelson and that they lived in Kingman, Ind. I presume Elizabeth was his spouse, but I don’t know this for sure. Another search on this website came up with an obituary for Joseph.

Can you help me with finding more information about PFC Joseph P. Nelson? I am trying to find more information about him since the day I have adopted his name.

I haven’t been successful in contacting his living relatives. I would like them to know I am taking the time to keep Joseph’s memory alive.

Thank you in advance. M. B. (Max) Poorthuis. Telephone +31 (0)6-21582996, e-mail
