For the past several years, when I wanted to solicit queries from the public, I periodically posted a solicitation on Internet message boards. The two sites I use are Roots Web, operated by Ancestry.com, and GenForum at Genealogy.com. I have a special e-mail address for receiving queries (tamszion@yahoo.com). After posting separate queries for each county in the Wabash Valley, I just sat by and watched the queries come in from all over the country. I received enough queries to run for several weeks.
Now things have changed. These message boards are not being visited very much and I don’t get nearly as much response from the public. We need our queries because they are a unique way for someone far away to connect with a local family member. I’m far from being an expert on the Internet. So if anyone has any ideas on where I can advertise to solicit more queries, please contact me at my e-mail address above. This is my query to you.

n David Benefiel will talk about “Southwest Indiana Pioneers” from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the main branch of the Vigo County Public Library. The presentation is free and open to the public. This talk should be of interest to those with Hoosier pioneers in their lineage. Learn more about the Indiana Pioneer Group and its database of early Hoosier settlers.
• The Wabash Valley Genealogy Society will be offering a series of beginning genealogy classes during the month of August. There will be four weekly sessions (Aug. 7, 14, 21, and 28), meeting on Thursday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m. in the computer lab of the Vigo County Public Library. These sessions are open to the public and WVGS members alike. The cost of the classes is a modest $5, and that includes supplies and materials. “While this is a perfect opportunity for those interested in their family research to start, the classes will also include information for the more seasoned genealogist,” says Jennifer Cruse, of the WVGS. The sessions will include learning how to document your genealogy on paper, learning how to document it online, an introduction to several genealogy programs, and a review of available genealogy Web sites. • I am looking for information on the George and Francis Dale Family. George Dale was born about 1794 in Washington County, Tennessee, and died in 1836 in Putnam County, Indiana. He married Francis Wright about 1815-17 in Harrison County, Indiana. She was born in 1799 in Overton County, Tennessee. The children of George and Francis Dale were all born in Putnam County, Indiana: Joseph Dale (born 1820), William Dale (born 1823), Mary Dale (born 1824, died 1848 in Cass County, Indiana, and married Cornelius Cotner in Cass County, Ind.), E. Frances Dale (born 1826, died 1890 in Burlington, Coffey County, Kansas, and married William Martindale Garrett in 1844 in Cass County, Ind.), Elizabeth “Bettsie” Dale (born 1827, and married John E. Knowels in 1850 in Cass County, Ind.), and George Samuel Dale (born 1831, died 1892 in Burlington, Coffey County, Kansas, and married Joanna Bird in 1853 in Kokomo, Howard County, Indiana).
