Bloomington North pulls away from Terre Haute North
For one half of high school basketball Thursday night, Terre Haute North played with its host and future Conference Indiana rival Bloomington North. But there are four quarters and two halves and the Cougars turned the Patriots’ turnovers into a 65-44 rout the second half.
North (8-8) committed 21 turnovers, seven in the third quarter when Bloomington North scored 22 points.
The Cougars turned a six-point halftime lead into a 47-33 cushion going into the fourth quarter.
Rebounding woes hurt South in loss at Bloomington South
Lack of size continued to plague visiting Terre Haute South in high school basketball Thursday night.

West Vigo had lost six straight going into Monday night’s makeup boys basketball game at Riverton Parke, which had dropped its last 12 in a row. Something had to give. The Panthers jumped out to an 11-5 lead after one quarter, but West Vigo rallied to take a 20-18 halftime lead and never trailed again in recording a 55-40 victory.

Adams, Lewis and Gilmore capture wrestling regional titles at Bloomington
Survive and advance was the goal Saturday for every high school wrestler in the regional tournament at Bloomington South High School. But it’s always good to be a champion, as Terre Haute South’s David Lewis and Phoenix Adams and Terre Haute North’s Tyler Gilmore can attest.
Lewis won the 113-pound regional title, Adams 152 championship and Gilmore the 145 crown to earn a berth in the Evansville Semistate.
Senseman's freestyle victories highlight Terre Haute's day at girls swim sectional
Having the fastest girl in the pool Saturday afternoon didn’t quite translate into a Plainfield Sectional championship for the Terre Haute South High School swim team, but that didn’t mean it was a bad day for Vigo County athletes.
The Braves finished a close third in the team standings while Terre Haute North was fourth, Greencastle fifth, South Putnam ninth and West Vigo 11th. Avon won the championship — that was in doubt until the final event — by 12 points over the host Quakers.

Terre Haute South finished the regular-season portion of its 2013-14 girls high school basketball campaign Saturday afternoon with a 73-45 loss to Jasper.

But in the end, visiting Evansville Reitz dug down to find enough energy to beat the host Patriots 73-66, wrapping up as impressive as weekend as coach Michael Adams could have asked for.
South plays well offensively, falls to Reitz
Evansville Reitz was busy in high school boys basketball on Saturday, meeting Terre Haute South in a rescheduled contest in the afternoon and facing Terre Haute North in the evening.
Both games were played at North and the visiting team won the first game 69-61, using a 9-0 run in the final three minutes to defeat the Braves.
Both teams shot better than 50 percent in the first period and South had two more field goals than the Panthers in assuming a 20-17 advantage after eight minutes.

All three Vigo County high schools will be represented in the finals of the Plainfield girls swimming and diving sectional today.
The diving is slated for 9 a.m. and the swimming finals will begin at 1 p.m.
Prep roundup: West Vigo girls clinch winning season
Kylie Cardinal had 16 points and visiting West Vigo recovered its free throw shooting touch Thursday night, downing Covington 62-51 to clinch West Vigo’s first winning girls high school basketball season since 2001.
Shyanne Elkins and Brooke Houser scored 10 points each and Lexus Elkins nine for the winners, who were 13 for 16 from the stripe. Avery Chezem had 16 points and Andi Taylor and Regan Foster 11 each for Covington.
South girls struggle in second half against Plainfield
Terre Haute South and Plainfield vied in a girls high school basketball preview of sorts Thursday night with the Quakers prevailing 63-45 in the South gymnasium.
The two teams will meet again on Wednesday in the Terre Haute North Class 4A Sectional. Plainfield will take a 13-6 mark into the contest.

The action — The Terre Haute South Braves (7-7 overall, 0-3 MIC) will play host to the Ben Davis Giants (7-6, 3-4) for a Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference matchup tonight and take on the Evansville Reitz Panthers (10-4 before tonight’s home game against Jeffersonville) on Saturday afternoon in North’s gym.
North, South girls ready for swim sectional
Terre Haute South swimming coach Jeff Thompson said senior standout Katherine Senseman has qualified for the girls state finals in all three of her previous seasons with the team.
He doesn’t expect this year to be any different.
