PREP ROUNDUP: South wrestlers pin down West Vigo for victory

WEST TERRE HAUTE — Terre Haute South got pins from Ian Newton, Cody Helms, Duane Deerwester, Chris Rawling, Nathan Arguello and Phoenix Adams in defeating host West Vigo 57-24 in high school wrestling Tuesday evening.

The Vikings had four pins of their own — coming from Kevin Stewart, Sam McClain, Dakota Short and Sam Bowden.

Northview’s high scorer was Mikayla Rowan with 11 points.

Kenzie Pollard also contributed an RP single-game record of eight blocked shots.

• Charleston 66, Paris 61 — At Charleston, Ill., the host team made 11 of 17 free throws in the fourth period Monday to defeat the Tigers.

Cayla Hoffman had 13 points, five blocks and 12 rebounds for Paris. Megan Temples had 11 points and Brie Tyler had 10 points and 10 boards.

Boys basketball

• Hutsonville-Palestine 45, Union 42 — At Hutsonville, Ill., the host team outscored the Bulldogs 15-12 to win Tuesday’s game.

Union trailed 12-8 at the first stop and had a 20-18 at halftime.

Langley and Robertson each had 13 points for Union. Williams led the winners with 15 and Alspach had 11.

• Mahurin honored — Rockville senior Lane Mahurin has been honored for his recent play in boys high school basketball.

Mahurin is the Subway Player of the Week for District 2. He had 32 points, six rebounds, four assists and four blocks in three quarters of play against South Vermillion.

Other nominees for district honors last week were Tasia Brewer and Jeffrey Turner of Terre Haute South and Sara Dickey of Riverton Parke.

n Elite go 2-0 — At Danville, the Terre Haute Elite travel team composed of sixth-grade girls beat Danville 28-9 and Greencastle 47-18 last weekend.



Terre Haute Elite — Audrey Baker, Amani Brown, Sarah Chatman, Lauren England, Kayla Hughes, Elizabeth Humphrey, Aundrea Kearschner, Chloe Mason, Victoria Mier and Orian Roshel. Coaches are Bruce Kearschner and Travis Mason.
