TERRE HAUTE — Terre Haute South was a winner on Tuesday in its first home girls golf match of the season, defeating Northview 178-181 at Rea Park.

Northview had finished ahead of the Braves in the South Invitational played earlier in the month.

The Knights had the lead with four scores tallied. Junior Madison Gruenert came in with a career-best 44 to give the Braves their second victory of the season.

Sophomore Ali Danielson had 42 to lead the 2-0 Braves.

“Madison’s score was huge to give us the win. It is good to see  her hard work pay off,” said South coach Cara Stuckey.

Junior Keirsten Mikesell was medalist, having 41 for the Knights, suffering their first defeat in dual matches.

“I am super happy with the way the season has started. Our ball striking was very good today. Our putting was not so good,” said Northview coach Bob Treash.

South plays again today, meeting Linton at the Phil Harris Course in Linton.

Northview is 3-1 and has a busy schedule, playing its second match of the week. The Knights will play Monrovia at Deer Creek today, play Terre Haute North at Hulman Links on Thursday and compete in the Vincennes Rivet Invitational on Saturday.
