Vikings win in extra innings at Rockville

West Vigo scored six runs in its first two innings Saturday, then needed a ninth-inning single by Lucas Fagg to escape with a 7-6 extra-inning win in nonconference high school baseball at Rockville.

The host Rox completed their comeback with two runs in the bottom of the sixth. In the ninth, singles by Alec Blair and Donnie Ames and a sacrifice bunt preceded Fagg’s game-winning hit.

n Terre Haute South 5, Lawrence North 0 — At South, the Braves completed a doubleheader sweep of Lawrence North late Friday night, earning a share of the Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference high school baseball title.

Damon Olds was dominant on the mound for the Braves, striking out 14 and walking just one while pitching a three-hit shutout.

South and Center Grove, who split a doubleheader on May 11, both finished 11-3 in league play. It’s the sixth time the Braves have won or shared the MIC championship.

South won Friday’s opener 4-1 as Preston Tofaute hit a tie-breaking three-run homer to support the combined pitching efforts of Cody Brock and Pete Lannoo.

The second game included a suicide-squeeze bunt by Conner Shipley for the first run, an RBI single by Brock for the second and a two-run single by Tofaute.

n Kuhn fourth in state — At Charleston, Ill., Ariana Kuhn of Marshall threw the discus 119-feet-2 for a fourth-place finish Saturday at the Illinois Class A girls state finals.

Kuhn’s performance gave the Lions six team points, tying them for 43rd place.
