PREP FOOTBALL ROUNDUP: Northview wins WIC title

NASHVILLE — Northview’s Knights regained the Western Indiana Conference title that eluded them last year with a slim win over the Eagles.

Brown County could have forced a three-way tie with a win, but fell behind 28-6 early and couldn't pull off the victory.

The Eagles scored the next 23 points to take a brief 1-point lead, but Northview dominated the rest of the way.

Tucker Stewart ran for 183 yards and two TDs and passed for 122 and one score.

Jacob Dean added 68 yards and two scores.

In other high school football Friday:

• Fountain Central 55, Rockville 27 — At Rockville, Fountain Central defeated Rockville to claim second place in the Wabash River Conference.

The No. 6-ranked Mustangs scored 28 points in the second stanza to take control of the contest and finished 8-1 for the season, 6-1 in the WRC. Rockville will take a 5-3 mark into the postseason and finished 5-2 in the conference.

Fountain Central scored first to take a 7-0 lead but the Rox scored twice and had a 12-7 lead after one quarter of action.

Isaiah Thurman scored the first Rockville touchdown on a 17-yard pass from Keiontre’ Wilkey and Wilkey got the second score on a 21-yard run. The second score was set up by the recovery of a FC kickoff fumble.

FC then got two touchdowns as a result of Rockville turnovers. The Mustangs also went 91 yards in three plays to go up 28-12.

Fountain Central took its biggest lead of the game at 41-12 with a touchdown set up by another Rockville turnover. The Rox got another score from Wilkey, who also ran for the two-point conversion, to trail 41-20 and got their final touchdown at the start of the final frame on a 7-yard run by Ben Cunningham.

Wilkey finished with two touchdowns, a two-point conversion run and touchdown pass.

• Class A No. 1 Linton 59, Class A No. 7 North Central 26 — At Linton, the host Miners wrapped up an undefeated regular season by disposing of another state-ranked opponent.

Linton (9-0) will go to Union next Friday to begin its sectional run, while North Central (7-2) will travel to Turkey Run.



• Covington 48, Riverton Parke 12 — At Mecca, the host Panthers closed their regular season with records of 1-8 overall and 0-7 in the Wabash River Conference.

Next — Riverton Parke will visit Fountain Central in the first round of the Class A sectional next Friday. Covington (2-7, 2-5) will travel to Attica for Class A sectional action that same night.



• Edgewood 20, South Vermillion 0 — At Ellettsville, the host Mustangs blanks South Vermillion the regular-season finale for both Western Indiana Conference teams.

Coach Chuck Sorrell’s Wildcats (2-7, 1-5) will welcome Monrovia to Clinton for a Class 2A first-round sectional game next Friday, while Edgewood (4-5, 3-3) will play host to Crawfordsville in Class 3A sectional action.



n Attica 61, Turkey Run 8 — At Attica, the visiting Warriors concluded their regular season with records of 1-8 overall and 1-6 in the Wabash River Conference.

Turkey Run will kick off Class A sectional action at home against North Central and Attica (6-3, 4-3) will play host to Covington, both next Friday.



• Class A No. 2 North Vermillion 51, Seeger 6 — At Cayuga, the host Falcons put the finishing touches on an undefeated regular season by routing another Wabash River Conference foe.

North Vermillion (9-0 overall, 7-0 WRC) will have a home rematch with Rockville in the first round of the Class A sectional next Friday. On that same night, Seeger (3-6, 3-4) will make the trip to Pioneer for a Class A sectional matchup.



• Mattoon 32, Paris 0 — At Mattoon, Ill., the host Green Wave turned loose its pass rush to stifle the visiting Tigers in Apollo Conference play.

Jacob Stephens ran for two touchdowns and Jared Pilson had a touchdown, a touchdown pass and a 2-point conversion pass for the winners, who held Paris to 52 yards on the ground thanks to repeated sacks of quarterback Riley Spencer.

Hunter Morris had 61 yards on 17 carries for the Tigers.

• Casey 34, Robinson 0 — At Casey, Ill., the host Warriors improved their record to 8-0 with a convincing victory over 6-2 Robinson.

Casey’s Austin Glidewell contributed 119 yards rushing and two touchdowns on 18 carries and Nicco Stepina passed for one TD — 56 yards to Zack Murphy — and ran for another score.

For Robinson, Joe Smith caught seven passes for 60 yards.
