PREP ROUNDUP: North girls fall to Carmel in OT; Brewer lifts South to win

CARMEL — Despite getting 25 points from Adrienne Pritchard and 14 from Nicole Anderson, Terre Haute North lost a 68-63 hearbreaker in overtime to Carmel in Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference girls high school basketball Saturday.

Layne Curley added 10 points for the Patriots. Carmel’s top scorers were J.J. Williams with 28 points, including four in OT, and 21 from Kyree Freeman, who made all six of her free throw attempts in the extra period and all 16 in the game. North was just 13 for 29 at the foul line.

Carmel outscored North 10-5 in overtime.

• Terre Haute South 80, Evansville Harrison 65 — At Evansville, Tasia Brewer had a career high 28 points plus eight rebounds, seven steals and five assists as the Braves snapped a two-game losing streak.

Emily Bell added 16 points and Labrea Joyner 12 for the Braves, who jumped out to a 29-11 first-quarter lead against the previously unbeaten Warriors.

• All-staters named — The Indiana Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches has announced its 2012 all-state teams.

Jackson Bertoli of Terre Haute South, the fourth-place finisher in last month’s state championship race at LaVern Gibson Championship Course, was the only first-team selection from the Wabash Valley.

Earning honorable mention are Terre Haute North’s Jessi Conley, Chanli Mundy and Lindsay Welker on the girls team along with Savannah Turner of Shakamak, Alli Workman of Bloomfield and Claudia Monnett of Cloverdale.

On the boys team, honorable-mention selections include Logan Hambrock and Spencer Danielson of South and Nic Yocom of Northview.



Wrestling

• Wildcats second — At Marshall, Ind., South Vermillion won four of five dual matches to take second place behind North Montgomery in Turkey Run’s Warrior Classic on Saturday.

The Wildcats didn’t have an individual champion. Winners from Rockville were Jake Thurman at 132 and Tate LIndsay at 138, while Jeff Girdler of Turkey Run was the winner at 182 and Robbie Davis of North Vermillion won at 220.
