TERRE HAUTE — Terre Haute South defeated South Vermillion 184-208 in girls high school golf Thursday at Rea Park.

It was the final nine-hole match of the season for the Braves and they finished 9-1 with the only defeat coming by two shots in a triangular match played at Forest Park. South has lost only once in nine-hole matches the past two seasons.

Seniors Taylor Monroe and Hayley Hayhurst were honored Thursday.

Ali Danielson and Alexandria Maris each shot 43 for the Braves to claim medalist honors. Kristi Thomas, the only senior in the South Vermillion lineup, led the visitors with 48.

South will conclude its regular season with conference tournaments, playing in the Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference championships Saturday at Oak Tree and in the Conference Indiana competition Monday at Columbus.

The Braves will vie for sectional honors at Forest Park in Brazil a week from Saturday.

Terre Haute South coach Cara Stuckey said she was proud that her team defended its home course, winning the county and not losing a match at Rea Park.

“Our goal has been to get four players shoot in the 40s to compete in the tournaments,” she said.

Stuckey added that Carmel will be favored to take MIC honors again with Center Grove and Ben Davis vying for second-place honors. A shotgun start of 8 a.m. is slated for the MIC match, with new teams in the competition, at Oak Tree near Plainfield.
