PREP ROUNDUP: No. 10 Terre Haute South tennis tops No. 23 Brebeuf

TERRE HAUTE — Tenth-ranked Terre Haute South survived the loss of No. 1 singles player Nathan Bogle to beat 23rd-ranked Brebeuf 3-2 on Saturday, but neither the Braves or Terre Haute North were able to score against No. 2 Indianapolis North Central in boys high school tennis.

Bogle left the third set of his match with Brebeuf’s Carlo Alusar with a recurrence of back problems and didn’t play in the afternoon match with North Central. Sectional play is less than a week away.

Otherwise the Braves got shutout wins from Krishan Kumar and Scott Kellar plus a decisive win at No. 2 doubles at Brebeuf.

The Patriots enjoyed a love-and-love victory by Grant Potts in losing 4-1 at Brebeuf later in the day, after losing earlier at North Central.

JV — North Central won 14-4; it was Terre Haute South’s first junior varsity loss.

Cross country

• South second, fifth; North boys seventh — At Bedford, Terre Haute South’s boys placed second and its girls fifth and the Terre Haute North boys were seventh at the Ted Fox Memorial.

Riley Stohler won the boys race for the Braves, still without Jackson Bertoli.

For the North boys — whose times improved from 24 to 46 seconds over last year on this course, coach Tom Dever pointed out — Peter Davis led the way with a time of 16:30 followed by Caleb Paauwe at 17:11, Dru Keith at 17:23, Chase Cresgy at 17:29, Tyler Nemeth at 17:34, Nana Dadzie at 18:07 and Joe Mascari at 18:39.

South’s girls were led by homecoming queen Katie Schmidt, 13th in 19:54. Other Braves were Amanda Moore at 20:30, Katie Barton at 21:01, Nicole Howe at 21:03, Sami Holmes at 21:10, Kirsten Peterson at 21:41 and Aydee Dalina at 22:13.

Complete scoring from Bedford was not available.



• North girls 11th — At Culver, Terre Haute North was 11th in girls elite competition at the Culver Invitational.

Lindsay Welker led the Patriots with a 47th-place finish in 20:12.

North was fourth in the girls reserve race.
