PREP ROUNDUP: TH North softball sweeps home twinbill

TERRE HAUTE — Terre Haute North opened the Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference portion of its 2013 high school softball schedule with two hard-fought home victories Saturday.

Against Lawrence North, Lorrie LaTourette hit a three-run homer in the third inning en route to a 4-1 triumph.

Then the Patriots needed a two-run walk-off homer in the bottom of the seventh by Katie Herrick to edge Warren Central 7-6.

Preston Tofaute was 5 for 6 for the day, including a triple and a homer.

Tasia Brewer led South’s girls with a second-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles and teamed with Nikki Kelty, Jordan Meng and Allison Kittell for a second-place finish in the shuttle hurdle relays. The shot put and discus relays — Kylie Fendrick and Maria Forsyth — both placed third.
