ROCKVILLE — On Hall of Fame Night at Rockville High School, the Rox put on a hall of fame-level performance in the first half en route to a 71-44 Wabash River Conference victory over visiting Seeger Saturday night.

The Rox,  undefeated and ranked No. 1 in Class A, hit 20 of 31 shots in the first half, including nine threes, and stole the ball nine times while rolling to a 52-24 halftime lead over a Seeger team that is now 10-6.

“We’re playing pretty well right now. We’re playing hard right now. We just to keep it up,” Rockville coach Dave Mahurin said.

Rockville’s 18th win of the season was led by a balanced attack of Lane Mahurin and Gary Ulrich with 20 points each and Jordon McFall with 17 ponts. Ulrich hit 6-of-8 shots from 3-point range and McFall was 5-of-8.

Seeger, which started the night allowing just 45 points a game, was led by Zach Stitt and Borden Kennedy with nine points each.

Lane Mahurin, who recently signed with Indiana Wesleyan University, an NAIA program in Marion, hopes the Rox can play better.

“It would be hard (to play better). I know we shot the lights out. I would like to say we could play a lot better, hopefully better come tourney time because we are closing in (on the tournament draw),” Mahurin said.

Rockville’s 28-3 second quarter was largely triggered by defense. The Rox forced Seeger into 10 turnovers in the second quarter and stole the ball five times while building a 36-point halftime lead.

“(Rockville) shot lights out in that first half. They hit nine threes in the first half. Their pressure (defense). They’re just so good at what they do. We had turnovers after turnovers,” Seeger coach John Collins said.

The only down side to Rockville’s night was guard Keiontre Wilkey was poked in the eye during the first quarter and did not return to the game. Wilkey had a patch over his eye on the bench.

The Rox led 67-27 going into the fourth quarter and none of starters played the final eight minutes.
