ROCKVILLE — Rockville won its own Class A sectional in high school baseball Tuesday, defeating Covington 10-4 in the rain-delayed championship game.

The Rox evened their record at 15-15 with the victory and earned a spot in the Lafayette Central Catholic Regional on Saturday, facing either top-ranked Frontier or second-ranked LCC in the first game.

LCC and Frontier were slated to play in the LCC Sectional title game.

Dalton Clark hurled two innings of Monday’s 3-2 victory over Attica and went six innings for the Rox on Tuesday, giving up one earned run and six hits while striking out six and walking two Trojans.

The Trojans got an earned run in the first frame to take a 1-0 lead.

Rockville went up 2-1 in the third when losing pitcher Tristan Keller hit a batter and walked one with one out before Ben Cunningham socked a double to drive in one run and Ross Brown singled in the second to put the Rox in front.

Covington tied the count with the unearned run in the fourth, but the Rox responded with six runs in the bottom of the fourth to take control of the contest. Brandon Cooper and Cunningham both drove in two runs in the frame.

Nick Waltz accounted for the final two Rox runs with a two-run homer in the fifth.

Covington took advantage of two Rockville miscues and a walk by Cunningham, who relieved Clark, to score twice in the seventh stanza.

Cunningham led the Rox on offense, going 3 for 3 with a double, scoring a run and driving in three runs. Cam Helderman was 2 for 4 and scored twice.
