Lafayette Central Catholic ended Rockville’s tourney run in high school baseball Saturday, defeating the Rox 8-0 in the first game of the LCC Class A Regional.
The defending Class A champs improved to 28-5 for the season and faced either Seton Catholic or Monroe Central in their bid to win a fifth straight regional title Saturday night.
Hayes Cronk hurled a one-hitter for the No. 2-ranked Knights, striking out 11 and walking two batters.
LCC extended its consecutive scoreless innings streak to 26 in the state tourney.
He got all the runs he needed to win in the first inning when the first four batters got hits and the Knights plated four runs. Andrew Huberts drove in two of the runs and Jackson Anthrop drove in the fourth run with a double.
LCC got another run in the second, another in the fifth and two in the sixth stanza.
Rockville had its best chance to score in the third frame when Cronk issued his only two walks and Brandon Cooper got the only Rox hit, but Cronk got a strikeout with the bases loaded to end the threat.
Jake Churchill was 4 for 4 to lead the winners and scored three times, while Anthrop was 3 for 3. Hubertz, Adam Lovell and Evan Kennedy each had to hits for the Knights.
Nick Waltz started for the Rox and Dalton Clark worked the final two innings, striking out five batters in that stint.
Rockville ended the season with a 15-16 record with five seniors on the roster. The Rox rallied to beat Attica 3-2 in the sectional semifinals and bested Covington in the final game.
