PREP ROUNDUP: Collett's three home runs help North to two more wins at Lafayette

TERRE HAUTE — Terre Haute North maintained its perfect start to the high school baseball season as it defeated McCutcheon 16-7 and Lafayette Harrison 7-3 to win the Lafayette Tournament.

North (7-0) exploded for 15 hits in the opener against McCutcheon. Five different Patriots had at least two hits. T.J. Collett had a home run. Sam Wolf had three RBI.

Collett slugged two home runs against Harrison and had four RBI.  Wolf was 3-for-3.

Late Friday, the Patriots defeated Gary West 12-0.

• South splits MIC opener — At Indianapolis, Terre Haute South split a high school baseball doubleheader with Indianapolis North Central on Saturday. The Braves won the opener 1-0 and were edged 2-1 in the nightcap.

Pete Lannoo earned the shutout victory in the opener as he allowed just four hits in seven innings of work. Jared Wolfe knocked in Clayton Streeter in the fifth inning to give the Braves the win.

North Central scored in the first and fourth innings in the second game and that was enough to hold off the Braves (3-4, 1-1 MIC).

• West Vigo splits — At Greenwood, West Vigo began its season with a split at the Center Grove Invitational. The Vikings lost 11-3 to Zionsville and defeated Connersville 7-2.

Kyle Stewart was 4-for-7 in the two contests. Andy Inman had a home run, a triple and four RBI against Connersville.

• West Vigo swept — West Vigo dropped a pair of games against Illinois competition. The Vikings fell 5-4 to Marshall and 6-4 to Robinson.

Marshall scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh to rally for the victory in the first game. Robinson scored three in the sixth and seventh innings to slip past the Vikings.

Robinson also defeated Flora 12-8.
