TERRE HAUTE —
To say Terre Haute North overwhelmed Northview on Friday night would be an understatement.
The Patriots’ 67-42 boys high school basketball victory was secured long before the final second ran off Northview High School’s clock.
North (2-1) used a 20-0 run in the final 4:57 of the first quarter and opening minutes of the second to break open the non-conference contest. The Patriots led 17-3 at the first stop and 38-17 at halftime.
“I think we played well tonight. Our focus all week long was taking care of the basketball and really being able to get after it on the defensive end. I thought we active on the defensive end, we took care of the basketball, didn’t make many turnovers tonight and we were very unselfish on the offensive end and that leads to positive results,” North coach Todd Woelfle said.
North’s extremely balanced attack was led by Calvin Blank with 13 points, six coming off three-pointers. Patrick Hart came off the bench to net 12 points for North and Austin Lewis had 10.
There are two perspectives on North’s defense. The Patriots limited the Knights to 10-for-28 shooting from the floor and forced 17 turnovers. But 19 of the Knights’ 42 points came from the free throw line because of Patriot fouls.
The Knights were led by Ethan Whitson with nine points. Jim Mace pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds.
North outscored Northview 18-6 in the third period to lead 56-23.
Northview played a couple different zone defenses throughout the contest, but North responded by hitting 6 of 22 three-pointers. Blank and Hart each had two.
Terre Haute North is off for the remainder of the weekend. The Patriots will play host to Ben Davis and Bloomington South next week.
Northview (0-2) returns to the floor tomorrow as it plays at Brown County.

North gets past Knights in boys basketball
With a huge size advantage on the program roster, you wouldn’t need to be Dr. James Naismith to figure out Northview’s strategy Tuesday night against a much shorter Terre Haute North team in boys high school basketball.
Pound the ball inside.
That plan worked well early on, as the visiting Knights bolted out of the gates to an early advantage.
The Patriots hung tough, though, and thanks to some clutch play off the bench from Braxton Poore and Andrew Farmer in the second quarter, delivered a knockout punch from which Northview could never recover.
North used a balanced scoring attack and an almost flawless floor game to record an easier-than-expected 68-43 victory.
