Miners win 46-0, move on in Class A football sectional

BICKNELL — Linton dominated Class A Sectional 40 football play Friday night, defeating host North Knox 46-0.

The 10-0 Miners will be at home for second-round action against Perry Central which led Eastern in its game at presstime. North Daviess and Tecumseh will meet in the other semifinal game.

Zane Hayden, Koye Kaiser and Abram Neff each scored for the Miners with Hayden scoring twice and combined to rush for more than 230 yards.

Kaiser went over the 1,000-yard mark and scored his 15th rushing touchdown of the season.

Austin Karaszia had two touchdown scoring passes, giving him 31 for the year.

The Miners had a 20-0 lead at halftime and scored twice in the third and fourth frames to post their fourth straight shutout and sixth of the year.

Hayden went 6 yards on a fourth-down play to score the first Linton touchdown and his interception set up the third score of the contest with Karaszia hooking up with Cole Bradbury on a 38-yard pass-run play.

Neff had the other Linton touchdown of the first half, scoring on a 25-yard run.

Linton punted for only the sixth time this season in the first half.

Grant Stamm caught his 12th touchdown pass to put Linton up 34-0 in the third period.

Class 4A sectional

Indianapolis Cathedral 62, Northview 0 — At Indianapolis, No. 7-ranked Cathedral held the Knights scoreless while playing a home game on Lawrence North’s field.

Cathedral (5-5) will visit Lebanon in the second round next weekend. Northview ended up 3-7.

Class 2A sectional

Indianapolis Ritter 62, South Vermillion 14 — At Indianapolis, No. 1-ranked Ritter outlasted the visiting Wildcats to end their season.

Ritter (10-0) will play host to Speedway next weekend. South Vermillion finished 2-8.

Class A sectionals

North Vermillion 58, Covington 6 — At Covington, the visiting Falcons remained undefeated with a convincing victory.

North Vermillion (10-0) will play host to North Central next weekend. Covington concluded its season at 2-8.

Cloverdale 44, Riverton Parke 22 — At Mecca, the visiting Clovers won the battle of previously winless teams.

Cloverdale (1-9) will play host to Attica next weekend. Riverton Parke was 0-10.

n Attica 28, Rockville 0 — At Attica, the host Red Ramblers emerged triumphant in a Wabash River Conference rematch.

Attica (7-3) will travel to Cloverdale next weekend. Rockville finished 4-6.

North Daviess 40, Union 12 — At Dugger, North Daviess earned the right to move in the state tournament.

North Daviess (4-6) will visit Tecumseh next weekend. Union concluded its campaign at 2-8.


Illinois results — Casey blanked Marshall 32-0 and Newton outscored Paris 10-7. Additional results were not provided to the Tribune-Star.


Leaders in state — Several Wabash Valley players were among the leaders in Indiana statistics through nine games.

In passing, Austin Karaszia of Linton was sixth with 160 completions in 217 attempts for 2,151 yards and 29 touchdowns. Payne Fortner of Sullivan was eighth with 145 completions in 262 attempts for 2,106 yards and 17 touchdowns.

In rushing, Chase VanSchoyck of North Central was second with 1,773 yards and on 167 carries and 17 touchdowns. Lucas Lorian of South Putnam was ninth with 1,463 yards and 18 touchdowns on 225 carries.

In receiving, Grant Stamm of Linton was 10th with 840 yards and 11 touchdowns on 47 receptions. Stamm also was tied for first in interceptions with six.

In solo tackles, Dante Rehmel of North Central was fourth with 89. Rehmel also was seventh in tackles for losses with 21.

Highlights — For Rockville, Raeann Sutherlin had 9 kills and 17 digs; Jenifer Lee 13 assists and 13 digs; DonaMarie Kelley 2 blocks and 8 kills; Emma Riffe 8 kills, 12 digs and 8 assists; Taylor Vukovits 9 digs.

Next — Rockville (18-14) plays Turkey Run at 11 a.m. today. Turkey Run beat Attica in Thursday’s other first-round match.
