Rox, Warriors move on in Banks tourney

Marshall, Ind. Rockville and host Turkey Run will meet Saturday night for the championship of the Banks of the Wabash Classic for girls high school basketball.

Rockville defeated Riverton Parke 48-29 in the first game Thursday, while Turkey Run beat North Vermillion 52-33 in the nightcap.

Kieran McMullen led Rockville with a game-high 21 points, while Lindsey Greene added 11 and Beth Mahurin 10.

Whitney Mathas led a balanced Riverton Parke attack with eight points.

Turkey Run raced to a 16-3 lead in the second game, only to have the Falcons climb back within eight points by intermission. But Adrianne Francis, Meghan Doss and Jordan Hunt led the home team to a 21-point third quarter that put the game out of reach.

Adrianne Francis had 13 points while Doss and Chelsea Francis scored 11 each for the Warriors. Taylor Poynter had 11 for the Falcons.

• Modesitt to sign at IUPUI — West Vigo boys standout Joel Modesitt will sign a letter-of-intent today to play at IUPUI.

Modesitt, the No. 1 singles player for the Vikings, was 31-3 during his junior and senior seasons for West Vigo.

Football

n Apollo team named — Five players from Paris have earned first-team honors on the Apollo all-conference team for football.

Earning the honor were Jake Keys, Jordan Keys, Levi Eslinger, Chase Brinkley and Blaine Grimes.

Eight players from league champ Mount Zion are on the first team.

Cross country

• LIC teams at state — Two Little Illini Conference teams competed in the Illinois Class A boys state finals Saturday at Peoria.

Robinson placed 15th and Lawrenceville finished 17th.

Elmwood took team honors with 109 points.

Graham Morris of Lawrenceville placed fifth in the meet. Sean Smith of Winnebago was the individual champion.
