Northview survives high school tennis sectional

Host Northview survived in girls high school tennis sectional action Friday, defeating South Putnam 3-2 and moving into the championship match.
The Knights play Greencastle, a winner Friday over Owen Valley, at 10 a.m. today.
South Putnam’s No. 1 doubles team of Megan Criss and Cassie Davis advanced to individual tournament play with a win.

Singles — Jazmine Kellum (Nv) def. Chelsea Clark 6-0, 6-2; Allie Melega (Nv) def. Whitney Wrren 7-5, 6-2; Elizabeth Mink (SP) def. Ali Rentschler 6-3, 6-2.
Doubles — Megan Criss-Cassie Davis (SP) def. Bonnie Froderman-Andrea James 1-6, 6-3, 6-4; Olivia Kumpf-Hannah Pond (Nv) def. Samantha Callahan-Megan Klotz 6-0, 6-3.
Next match — Northview and Greencastle play at 10 a.m. today for the Northview Sectional championship.

n Crooks wins pole vault — At Terre Haute North, Cody Crooks of Terre Haute South jumped 12-feet-6 to capture the Terre Haute North sectional pole vault title, beating out North’s Connor Lentz.
Also advancing to the Evansville Central Regional will be Dylan Bubeck of South (11-6) and Jared Royer of Northview (11-6).
Baseball
n Riverton Parke 11, Sullivan 9 — At Sullivan, the visiting Panthers came from behind with a seven-run fifth inning and held on in nonconference play.
Grant Mitchell was winning pitcher and also had a two-run homer for the visitors.

Next game — Riverton Parke (4-19) has a noon home game today against Crawfordsville. Sullivan is 8-15.
Softball
n North Vermillion 9, Attica 4, 8 innings — At Attica, the visiting Falcons tied the score in the last inning, then put the game out of reach with five runs in the eighth.
