Alzheimer’s caregivers session set

TERRE HAUTE — The Alzheimer’s Association Greater Indiana Chapter will host a free, two-part session on “Living with Alzheimer’s for Caregivers: Late-Stage,” from 3 to 5 p.m. on Nov. 14 and Nov. 21 in Indiana State University’s University Hall at 401 N. Seventh St.

There is no fee to attend the session but registration is requested by contacting the Alzheimer’s Association 24/7 Helpline at 800-272-3900.

Attendees will learn the concept of self in the late-stage of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias.

Caregivers also will learn effective ways to communicate with individuals with the disease and how to provide daily care.

The program also will cover late-stage care options and explain how to access and evaluate them.

Today, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer’s disease, including 120,000 Hoosiers. It is the nation’s sixth leading cause of death.

The direct and indirect costs of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias amount to more than $200 billion annually.
