Minority health coalitions conducting town hall session on health care law

TERRE HAUTE — The Minority Health Coalition of Vigo Country, along with the Indiana Minority Health Coalition, will host a town hall meeting from 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 1 in the Booker T. Washington Park Community Center at 1101 S. 13th St.

State Rep. Ed Clere, chairman of the Public Health Committee, will conduct the meeting along with panelists Carl Ellison, from the Indiana Minority Health Coalition, and Paul Chase, attorney with health care expertise. The panel will discuss the Affordable Care Act and Indiana’s plan to comply and also answer questions and listen to the concerns of the public.

“This is a great opportunity for the public to learn about this landmark legislation that affects us all. It is the perfect opportunity to ask questions and voice concerns,” said Dinah Farrington, executive director/program coordinator for the coalition.

“There are only eight of these meetings occurring across Indiana and we are very fortunate in Terre Haute to have this panel of experts come to provide information as well as listen to questions,” Farrington said.

Oct. 1 is the first day of open enrollment for the Affordable Care Act. This legislation will require that everyone be enrolled in an insurance program with the goal being to provide all Americans access to preventive health care.
