Yes, blueberries might help those with Parkinson’s and related disorders

TERRE HAUTE — The effects of diet in the lives of Parkinson’s patients are constantly studied these days.

The positive impact of coffee or, most recently, blueberries, on folks afflicted with the neurological disease make the news. This month, a new study released by researchers at Memorial University in Newfoundland, Canada, found evidence that blueberries may help treat Parkinson’s and other degenerative neurological disorders. Though medications and treatments can slow Parkinson’s progression, no cure is yet known.

Diet and Parkinson’s will be discussed in Friday’s session of the Terre Haute Parkinson’s Support group, scheduled for 10 to 11 a.m. in Westminster Village at 1120 Davis Drive.

Abbie Loving, a dietitian at Westminster, will speak at the meeting, which is free and open to the public.

Anyone with questions about the meeting can contact support group organizer Loyal Bishop at 812-242-4668.
