Parkinson’s-blood pressure link topic of group’s gathering Friday

TERRE HAUTE — The effects of Parkinson’s disease go beyond tremors and motor-system afflictions, and one such aspect — low blood pressure — will be explained at a gathering Friday of people touched by the ailment.

Dr. Frank J. Pikul, a pathologist and laboratory director at Terre Haute Medlab, will discuss Parkinson’s and blood-pressure medications during the monthly Terre Haute Parkinson’s Support Group meeting from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday in Westminster Village at 1120 Davis Drive.

The session is free and open to the public.

Parkinson’s patients commonly experience light-headedness upon standing, according to the American Parkinson’s Disease Association.

The disease afflicts an estimated 1.5 million Americans. Though there is no known cure, medications and treatments have been found to slow its progression.
