Lung group hopes folks step up for Indy climb event

Interested climbers can save the date of March 8 for the American Lung Association in Indiana’s 2014 Fight for Air Climb.

The climb will take place at 8 a.m. at Chase Tower, 111 Monument Circle, Indianapolis.

Thousands of residents from Indianapolis and across the Midwest are expected to participate. Registered climbers range in age from 7 to 75.

The Fight for Air Climb fundraising event is a stair climb up the tallest building in Indiana — 48 stories high. The event is immediately followed by a celebration at the top of the tower by the finish line in D’Amore, an event space with 360-degree views of the city.

Participating in the Fight for Air Climb, often referred to as a “vertical road race,” empowers individuals to invest in their own personal health and fitness.

They are also fighting for an end to lung disease and to improve the lives of patients locally and across the country. Ninety cents of every dollar raised goes directly to education, research and advocacy.

Participants can start a team, join a team, join as an individual or volunteer. Register at www.FightForAir or by calling 317-819-1181.

The Lung Association has joined forces with the National Institute for Fitness and Sport to offer a free training program for those registered in the climb event, with lower-body conditioning and cardio activities geared toward climbing stairs. Workouts start in February and are tailored to various levels of physical ability. Dates are listed online.
