FSSA begins processing applications for Healthy Indiana Plan

INDIANAPOLIS — On Monday, the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration announced that applications for the Healthy Indiana Plan are now being processed. To date, nearly 1,500 applications have been received by the agency and coverage will begin as soon as Jan. 1.

“For the first time in Indiana history, we are able to offer a program that will provide uninsured Hoosiers with the peace of mind of knowing that they have access to affordable healthcare,” said FSSA Secretary Mitch Roob. “As a result of the efforts of our governor and unprecedented bipartisan support of our state legislators, we are now able to offer insurance to nearly 130,000 uninsured, working Hoosiers.”

The agency anticipates enrolling approximately 50,000 Hoosiers during the first year. Applications are now available online or by calling 1-877-GET-HIP9 (1-877-438-4479). HIP will provide health insurance for uninsured adult Hoosiers between 19 and 64 whose household income is below 200 percent of the federal poverty level, and who are not eligible for Medicaid. HIP requires each participant to make a modest monthly financial contribution, but the program is state-subsidized.
