Help celebrate ‘The Power of Pink’


The Wabash Valley affiliate of Suasn G. Komen for the Cure will honor breast cancer survivors during a May 31 celebration in Le Fer Ballroom of Le Fer Hall at St. Mary-of-the-Woods College.

The celebration begins at 1 p.m.

All breast cncer survivors will be admitted to “The Power of Pink” for free. Others may attend for $5. Reservations are required and can be made by calling 812-229-2873 or by e-mail at wvracecure@aol.com. Julie Henricks will serve as the event’s emcee.



AARP hosts driver safety program


AARP is offering a driver safety program classroom course for members and non-members through June 15. The cost is $10 for the AARP workboook for non-members.

The class will bring participants up to date on defensive driving, traffic laws and rules of the road.

Red Cross meeting is Tuesday


The American Red Cross Wabash Valley Chapter will conduct its annual membership meeting and “Save the Day” Celebration at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in Zamberletti Restaurant at 1429 S. 25th St.

The program will include election of members to the board of directors, election of board of directors officers and recognition of benefactors and outstanding volunteer service and Save the Day Celebration.

All chapter volunteers, financial donors and Save the Day captains and solicitors are invited.

Reservations may be made by contacting Carol Stevens, Chapter executive director, by e-mail to cstevens@wabashvalleyredcross.org or by calling (812) 232-3393, ext. 11. Reservations must be made by Friday. Seating is limited.



Celebrate mental health month


The Hamilton Center will host its second annual Mental Health Month Cookout from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 30. It will be staged in the parking lot at 1616 Wabash Ave.

Paris Community Hospital/Family Medical Center will stage free foot screenings for diabetic patients from 6 to 8 p.m. May 28 in the Visiting Specialy Clinic.

Outrun the sun on June 7


“Outrun the Sun” at 7 p.m. June 7 on the campus of IUPUI. The event includes a five-mile run, 5L run/walk and one-mile family walk.

Korger adds to generic drug program


Kroger Co.’s central division is expanding the $4 generic prescription program. The retailer is offering 90-day prescriptions for only $10 on its expanded generic frug program.

The new initiative is in addition to the program introduced last fall. Eleven more prescriptions are available, including cholesterol-lowering drug Prevastatin.

The store is also increasing the number of women’s health medications it offers.
